Are you trying to help your child start a healthy new habit?
Aim for three times a week, four weeks in a row, to really get things going. Starting new routines, even healthy routines challenges most of us. Yet we often find ourselves wanting to form new habits, seeking to be healthier, happier, less stressed out. So how do we make that happen?
When we looked at data from Mightier families, we found that children who played Mightier three times a week for their first Mightier month were most likely to get their play routine to stick. Which made it more likely that they would become more skilled and successful in emotion regulation.
Within Mightier, we know families need at least three months of regular play to have the best chance at seeing improvement. Early summer can be a perfect time to get started with Mightier — three months when your child can learn new self-calming strategies, before returning to school in the fall.
If you’re just starting with Mightier, or any new healthy habit, we also know it’s most important to just focus on getting through that first week. Carve out time, set reminders on your calendar, and at the end of the week celebrate the win (we recommend ice cream). Once you make it there, do it all again the next week. Celebrate then, too.
